Despite being impatient with the timing of this little look at Kiritsugu's past, I did really enjoy it. And I don't think I really understood how damaged Kiritsugu is before this either. :(((( I don't think I'll ever love Kiritsugu like I do Saber/Iri/Waver/Gilgamesh/Kirei (there's parts of all of them that I can identify with, unlike the weird disconnect that I personally get with Kiritsugu) but my heart does go out to the poor guy. :(
